Margaret Gress graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the spring of 1980. As a former Family and Consumer Sciences teacher, she began her teaching career in Pinellas County Schools the following fall. At the beginning of the 1986 school year, she transferred to Gibbs High School, where she remained until her retirement in December 2022—a total of 36 ½ years at this school she calls her “home away from home.” She loves running into her former students as she is out and about, hearing about their lives, and knowing that the life skills she passed on to them in her classes are contributing in a positive manner to their lives.
Margaret is especially happy and proud to be working on the new Jonathon Gibbs High School Museum of History. She feels that this school is extremely historic and that the respect, excellence, and pride this school represents needs to be passed on—not just to the students who pass through its doors but to all of the citizens of our fair city, county, and state. This museum is a way of acknowledging all those who came to this school before and the appreciation we have for its place in our lives.
